Herdwick and rough fell especialy are farmed a lot up on the hills and gave been since the early medival times.

To the left is a cross between a herdwick and swaledale

the sheep is called a north counrty mule and can be made of any two of these sheep cross breeded texel, herdwick and swaledale

You can tell if it's not pure herdwick  if it's female and has horns, unlike the pure herdwick rams who have huge curly ones.

Herdwicks are born black then get white patches, after a year they become brown and are called hogits. When they are three they are adults and have babies as well as the next few years to follow.
